Job Summary:
The Coordinator of Community and Visitor Engagement plays a crucial role in facilitating visitor engagement and coordinating community programs for the Colby College Museum of Art. The primary responsibilities include supervising and coordinating a team of part-time staff and student workers at the museum's Joan Dignam Schmaltz Gallery of Art, located in the Paul J. Schupf Art Center in downtown Waterville. The role also involves collaborating with engagement colleagues and community partners on the development and execution of select programs at the museum's downtown and campus sites. The coordinator ensures visitor welcome to the downtown gallery, manages logistical and administrative operations, and adheres to security and safety protocols. Additionally, they are responsible for developing engagement programs, creating systems to manage program planning details, and working closely with the museum's engagement team. An ideal candidate for this position is passionate about building community through the arts, enjoys engaging with people of diverse backgrounds, and demonstrates strong organizational and interpersonal skills. The Coordinator of Community and Visitor Engagement reports to the Mirken curator of education and engagement and collaborates closely with various teams within the museum and campus, as well as external partners and organizations in Waterville and Central Maine.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
General open office and campus environment with occasional lifting required. Some night and weekend work may be necessary based on museum events.
