An Assistant MEP Designer will assist in various phases of planning, studies, report preparation, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and construction administration as part of a project team.
- Lead the 3D modeling and physical design and layout of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and equipment based on diagrams or other verbal or written description from the design engineer.
- Assist in producing flow diagrams and one line diagrams from verbal or written description from the design engineer.
- Work collaboratively utilizing design systems for the production of design deliverables.
- Assist with a full range of drawing production work including design analysis, design layout and calculations on nonroutine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
- Assist with initial rough designs or sketches and redlines or markups on ongoing projects.
- Assist in performing a variety of routine assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, incorporating various system components, and refining rough sketches.
- Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards.
- Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
- Incorporate schedules, budgets and project criteria into MEP design and layouts.
- Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and projectrelated information in a logical and wellstructured manner.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field and two years related experience or associate's degree and three years related experience or four years progressive detailing and design experience.
- Self starter and strong motivation to learn and grow.
- Strong understanding of Revit design software and Excel to develop design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utlize new design sofware programs.
- Basic knowledge in design, calculations, and MEP systems.
- Basic knowledge in the theory and practices of MEP engineering disciplines; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multidiscipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
- This position will be performing Federal related project work for Burns & McDonnell's clients. A qualified applicant must have the ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization to the clients' facilities.
