Independence Corrugated, a subsidiary of Schwarz Partners and corrugated manufacturing industry leader, currently has an exciting opportunity available for a 2nd Shipping Lead in Oak Creek, WI.

As a Shipping Lead, you are responsible to manage all aspects of shipping including setting up trucks, MSF/Trailer, communicating with carriers, customers, and customer service team to ensure products are shipped in timely manner in accordance with shipping documents and instructions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Adjust dispatch, prepare paperwork and routes dedicated drivers on all deliveries in the most cost-efficient and time-saving manner possible.
  • Direct forklift operators on loading trucks daily, trailer moves for setting up docks with correct carrier for locations to deliver to.
  • Understands and effectively use Axiom to build loads that maximize trailer usage while also satisfying customer requirements for delivery times. Understand the reports and tools available within Axiom.
  • Able to do basic math, to know trailer size and to read a tape measure to utilize trailers to max MSF per truck.
  • Read and understand orders, load tags, and read and understand a roll tag. Understand unitizing and palletizing information & corrugator flutes.
  • Take responsibility for communicating with other shift employees how job is running, problems, adjustments, etc.
  • Ability to organize the dock to eliminate units from small orders being mixed with large orders not being loaded. To ensure all scrape is picked up and weighed, particle units are banded, and the knowledge of loading scrap bales in proper trucks.
  • Have crew clean up weekend shut down; prepare bills for all loads to deliver on Monday. Make all changes on dispatch and inform all carriers and customers. Have all scrap bales picked up and loaded & all scrap off machines and properly placed in designated area / location before end of the shift.
  • Raising and lowering of dock plates, safeguarding with chain for dock doors, and to report any damage.
  • To follow all safety rules and to be able to do forklift inspections.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and coordinate with scheduler.
  • Customer Service team & colleagues to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to get along and have a good working relationship with other employees. Use proper communications skills with coworkers, customers, and vendors.
  • Be proficient in using chocks, glad hand locks, and lock out when straight trucks are being used.
  • Must be able to do multiple tasks such as load trucks, cover for dispatcher when off, & help cover for supervisor during his absence.
  • Must be able to work as a team and ability to get along and have a good working relationship with other employees.
  • Follow all safety and company policies and procedures including maintaining good housekeeping, reporting any issues, accidents or incidents immediately; must complete online safety training each month as assigned.
  • Comprehend instructions given by supervisors.
  • Ability to lead others to handle forklift responsibly and take ownership in maintaining and upkeep forklift in good shape.
  • Attendance must always be exemplary. Must be able to work flexible hours and/or extended hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:


  • Experience operating a forklift.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Basic math skills and must be able to read a tape measure, and computer skills.
  • 2yr. experience in Shipping/Warehouse environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Operate industrial truck while seated for extended periods of time.

Occasional standing, talking, hearing, walking; stooping and bending, twisting, turning, maintaining balance; occasional kneeling and reaching over the shoulder; also required simple grasping, pushing and pulling; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs; specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.
