    Safety & Occupational Health Specialist with Security Clearance - joint base lewis-mcchord, United States - Department of Defense

    Description

    Duties * Interpret and establish criteria for safe handling and transport of all chemicals and hazardous material by land, water, and air.

    * Review and interpret laws and regulations concerning transportation of hazardous material throughout the installation. * Investigate and provide technical expertise for investigations of accidents and incidents involving ammunition and explosives or hazardous materials.

    * Review installation explosives storage site submissions, construction or renovation plans; major hazardous materials programs and projects; and storage and work area proposals.

    Requirements Conditions of Employment * Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

    * Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

    * This position is a CP-12 Safety and Occupational Health career field.

    The selected candidate must already have or be able to achieve a CP-12 Level One certificate within 12 months of entry on duty.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Specialized Experience:

    One year of specialized experience which includes auditing the effectiveness of hazard control programs; using analytical techniques to recommend changes related to the operation, maintenance, or testing of the various systems of large military or industrial support facilities; organizing safety and health programs related to installation operations that include the use and disposal of high explosives, toxic, and radiological materials; and assessing industrial work processes, compressed gases, flammable and combustible liquids to pinpoint casual factors contributing to mishaps and resulting in dangerous working conditions.

    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

    Grade Requirement:

    Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

    Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

    Additional information * Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

    How You Will Be Evaluated You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
