Voluntary Action Center is looking for a part-time service minded professional to join our LaSalle team to assist with the general administration and operation of the agency's Meals on Wheels program.

For over 20 years we have been dedicated to promoting dignity, health, and self-sufficiency by providing high quality nutrition services to individuals with disabilities and seniors within our communities.


Reporting to our Meals on Wheels Manager, the Support Specialist will work closely with the nutrition program team supporting a variety of program related functions.

This position may require working variable hours including occasional weekends and will be required to travel within the county we serve.

The Support Specialist must be comfortable going into the homes of potential clients to assess, determine eligibility and communicate VAC support related programs.

This position routinely handles highly sensitive and/or confidential information and must represent our organization as an ambassador of our mission and values.


EXAMPLES OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Perform inperson assessments for the Meals on Wheels program, as directed.
  • Assist with Meals on Wheels reassessments.
  • Advises and assists seniors in the community on appropriate resources and services that are available to them in the community.
  • Assist MOW team members by ensuring correct meal counts, delivering meals, and meal assembly as directed.
  • Work with program volunteers by providing information and materials necessary to complete daily delivery routes, as needed.
  • Conduct, implement, complete surveys, statistic analysis and prepare reports as needed; ensures accuracy, thoroughness, and timely completion.
  • Perform filing and general administrative tasks.
  • Answer phones, respond to client questions, and assist Meals on Wheels team as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in human services or related field preferred.
  • Experience in community engagement, as well as a general knowledge of Federal and State nutrition programs with the ability to interpret program eligibility requirements, highly preferred.
  • Clean driving record and a valid Illinois driver's license is required.
  • 2+ years of previous work experience in a comparable social service or notforprofit agency performing related responsibilities and tasks, preferred.
  • MS Office Suite proficiency.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to handle sensitive confidential matters with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends if required.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle.

  • Working knowledge of customer service best practices and procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including preparing comprehensive documents and reports.
  • Work well with the public and maintain a positive image for the agency.
  • Commitment to serving seniors and persons with disabilities, as well as the best interest for the community we serve.
  • Ability to establish and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to resolve conflict with positive outcomes.
  • Attention to detail must be detail oriented.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position usually works in an office environment that is quiet to moderately loud. This position requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and occasionally driving a motor vehicle for extended periods. Employees occasionally lift 10 lbs., but up to 30 lbs.

Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, telephones, and other office equipment.

Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
