ABOUT THE ROLE


The post-holder will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, management, and daily operation of the Harrow New York physical infrastructure, including buildings, grounds, and related systems.

This role ensures compliance with safety regulations, manages facilities budgets and will in due course lead a team of facilities and operations staff.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Build and lead a team of facility management professionals as required.
  • Oversee building, grounds, equipment, and utilities maintenance, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems to ensure efficient operation and timely maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including fire safety, health and safety codes, and environmental standards.
  • Develop and implement emergency plans to ensure safety and business continuity in case of emergencies.
  • Propose and manage budgets for facility operations, ensuring efficient resource allocation and adherence to financial targets.
  • Oversee capital improvement projects, facility upgrades, and consult with contractors and city and state officials.
  • Serve on relevant staff committees and assist with matters relating to licensing and compliance.
  • Respond to campus emergencies as required.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, communicate facilityrelated policies, and ensure effective project execution.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate facilities and operations staff, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with external vendors and service providers to support facility maintenance and operations.
  • Lead facilitiesrelated projects, including renovations, expansions, and system upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain an ongoing Preventative Deferred Maintenance Program.

PERSON SPECIFICATION - DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES & OPERATIONS

Post-holders will be expected to demonstrate the following:

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of leadership experience in facilities management.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, maintenance practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in budget management, project management and vendor negotiations.
  • Certification in facilities management is highly desirable.
  • Practical experience successfully implementing a Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Familiarity with historical preservation practices is an asset.

LEADERSHIP AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Strong leadership, problemsolving and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work flexibly, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
