    Summary:
    Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Public and Media Relations Manager provides support to the university's public relations, internal communications and media relations efforts.

    Job Description:
    • Implements public relations, internal communications, and media relations strategies for the University.
    • Develops media relations strategies aimed at gaining the university positive exposure in local, national, and international media outlets; supports communications for the University for executive team members; provides media relations support to the Crisis Leadership Team and Administration; coordinates media training for the university's lead administrators; works with students and faculty to identify opportunities to promote Gallaudet's academic offerings and the accomplishments of students, faculty and alumni; helps ensure all activities reflect Gallaudet's strategic objectives in both content and appearance; provides support for the functions of media relations, selected public relations activities, internal e-publications, campaign materials, and the Gallaudet website; and works closely with university leaders.
    • Develops media relations opportunities, writes media releases, and answers media queries; produces appropriate sources for the development of individual stories; staffs interviews and conducts media training; and promotes Gallaudet's programs, people, and their stories, including faculty expertise and research.
    • Tracks media coverage and develops/updates media tracking and analytics; and monitors media trends.
    • Develops and maintains media contacts and databases.
    • Implements public relations projects and programs, including external and internal promotional events; and works with marketing to produce support materials and activities, including materials in support of other university initiatives.
    • Along with leaders of the university, implements strategies to achieve the university's strategic goals, including participation in cross-functional initiatives and teams.
    • Assists with the oversight of content for some of the University's most visible, most influential print and electronic publications, Gallaudet Today magazine, Gallaudet website, Gallaudet Digest, Hi-5, and broadcast emails.
    • Develops or solicits talking points, speeches, and quotes on behalf of the Board of Trustees, university president and senior-level administrators.
    • Assists the Director in helping the university manage crisis communications, working closely with the Crisis Leadership Team, Dean of Student Affairs and Director of Public Safety.
    • Represents University Communications at on- and off-campus events that support the university's strategic goals.
    • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
    • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
    • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree.
    • A minimum of four years of professional experience with public relations, communications and marketing, or a related field.
    • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience working in a higher education setting.
    Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
    • Strong knowledge of the national media market and its principal influences.
    • Strong skills with understanding how to cultivate reporters and media contacts and pitch stories.
    • Demonstrated experience in measuring the plan's activities with appropriate rigor and metrics.
    • Demonstrated experience with media relations, connections with print and broadcast media, and familiarity with electronic media, the web and its permutations.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.
    • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
