The CalSTRS IT Infrastructure & Operations Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Information Technology Specialist II to work on the Network Infrastructure Team.


  • Under the general direction of the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Information Technology Specialist II will act as the Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer,, is responsible for the administration, management, implementation, troubleshooting, and support of IT Infrastructure systems, including but not limited to server, storage, cloud, networking and disaster recovery, with an emphasis on cybersecurity and protecting CalSTRS assets.


The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will work independently with mínimal supervision and is responsible for the deployment, implementation, and support of secure cloud services and systems.

The incumbent will be responsible for various Cloud Service systems, including but not limited to, Amazon Web Services, Azure Cloud Services, public cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, co-location environments, Active Directory, enterprise storage, authentication, PKI, and web-tier architecture solutions.


Collaborating with other technical engineers, the Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for providing expert-level technical knowledge and leadership on cloud and cybersecurity best practices, IT Infrastructure technologies, as well as collaborating with project team members, vendor consultants for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the CalSTRS' on-premises and cloud IT environments.

The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will ensure IT systems and solutions are in alignment with CalSTRS' business strategy and IT cybersecurity policy.


The position is required to be on a rotational standby status during evenings, weekends, and holidays to provide after-hours support for mission critical systems. After-hours support rotations will be scheduled in advance as much as possible.

  • Knowledge and experience with advanced Windows server administration in a complex and highly secure environment
  • Five years of information technology experience, one year of which shall include experience in a lead or expert capacity.
  • Knowledge and experience with IT infrastructure services, including Active Directory, O365, DNS, SAN, SSO, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with advanced VMware virtualization administration, including VDI and vRealize/Aria Suite
  • Knowledge and experience with cloud technologies and services, including AWS, Azure, and SaaS implementations
  • Experience developing and mentoring junior staff in a technical lead capacity.
  • Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

Telework Information:We offer a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working on-site at our Headquarters in West Sacramento 2 days per week.
