Requirements:


  • GED or high school diploma, a valid license from the Michigan Board of Dentistry and yearly internal skills assessment required.
  • One year dental chairside experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.
  • Proof of radiology competency set by the state of Michigan preferred.
  • Basic Life Support/CPR training according to requirements of license and/or certification.

Responsibilities:


  • Escort patients, prepare them for treatment and provide assistance in the educational and preventive care of proper oral hygiene.
  • Assist dentist in the performance of procedures by setting up trays disinfecting equipment, sterilizing instruments, equipment maintenance and maintaining a clean and efficient work area through practice of universal precautions.
  • Maintain patient records and assist in recording patient information.
  • Explain oral hygiene and postop instructions to patients/guardians.
  • Perform dental radiographic procedures.
  • Complete instrument transfers.
  • Take alginate impressions, pour and trim models.
  • Maintain Aseptic environment.
  • Monitor supplies and order as needed
  • Under the direction of the Dentist, may assist in dental procedures performed in a hospital operating room. Specific duties would be similar to those performed in the clinic setting. Hospital orientation is required prior to working in the hospital.
  • Classify occlusion
  • Inspect and chart of the oral cavity
  • Remove excess cement from supragingival surfaces
  • Polish teeth before a procedure that requires acid etching
  • Replace existing temporary restorations, crowns, and bridges
  • Cement and remove temporary crowns
  • Remove sutures
  • Place, condense, and carve amalgam restorations
  • Place Class I bonded restorations, occlusal adjustment, finish, and polish with nontissue cutting rotary hand pieces
  • Take final impressions for indirect restorations
  • Assist and monitor of N2O (upon course completion)
  • Perform pulp vitality testing
  • Place and remove matrices and wedges, rubber dams, and norepinephrine retraction cord.
  • Take impressions for mouth guards and bite splints.
  • Dry endodontic canals with absorbent points
  • Other duties as assigned.
