This position is located in the District of Columbia Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Inspections and Evaluations Unit (I&E).
The OIG's mission is to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness and to detect and deter fraud, waste, and abuse in District government programs and operations.
The incumbent in this role will be responsible for supporting the team in researching, gathering and developing facts on the effectiveness, productivity and efficiency of external programs and operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Work as a member of a team to conduct inspections and evaluations of District agencies, offices, and programs to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of operations, policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
narrative and statistical information; drafting questionnaires; reviewing quantitative and qualitative data; and comparing past, present, and related program functions.
Work as a member of a team to effectively implement unit goals and priorities.
Participates as a team member to plan and coordinate inspections and evaluations, specifically giving support on research and development of the inspection or evaluation plan.
Communicates information to team members regarding the extraction, summaries, and analysis of data to identify apparent trends and issues to assist in drafting reports and briefings.
Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications and Education
OIG's desired applicants have general experience working in a team environment to solve organizational management problems to promote efficiency, preparing written products including reports, issuing findings and recommendations to enhance organizational efficiency in government programs and agencies and a basic knowledge of the Quality Standards for Inspection and Evaluation, known as the "Blue Book" and the Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government, known as the "Green Book".
Prefer applicants with have a basic knowledge of local or federal government organization, functions, and operations; basic statistics, accounting, budgeting, and economic principles and techniques; conventional fact-finding, analytical, and problem-solving methods to identify program issues; and ability to research and analyze relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to program/operational areas to consider their impact on programs.
Work Environment
Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate‐controlled office setting. Some out‐of‐ town travel may be required.
