    We have an exciting opportunity for a Network Engineer position located at our campus in Temecula, CA. Under general direction, the Network Engineer reports to the Network Supervisor and/or the Dean of Information Technology. The Network Engineer performs designs and implements physical and virtual networks. The Network Engineer is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of network firewalls, web application firewalls, egress, ingress, and security groups. The Network Engineer performs network troubleshooting. The Network Engineer ensures virtual and physical networks operate efficiently. The Network Engineer assists in the scoping and verifying network requirements for construction and capital planning projects. Strong attention to detail, time management, project planning, problem solving, and task management skills are required to successfully complete the duties and tasks of the position.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Participate in networking design implementation, and assessment
    • Virtual networking design, implementation, and assessment
    • Multi-cloud networking design, implementation, and assessment
    • Design and implementation of firewalls and security policies
    • Troubleshooting of physical networks, virtual networks, VPNs, and other network components
    • Disaster recovery design, implementation, and assessment
    • Intrusion detection design, implementation, and assessment
    • Maintain knowledge of cybersecurity risks and mitigations
    • Participate in incident response in coordination with District Incident Response Team
    • Participate in defining low voltage requirements for construction projects
    • Implement and maintain wireless networks
    • Perform tier 4 customer support
    • Coordinate with stakeholders
    • Product assessment and procurement
    • Perform installation, maintenance, and assessment of networking hardware
    • Participate in the development of policies and procedures
    • Make recommendations to leadership
    • Maintain expert knowledge of network technology
    • Perform installation, maintenance, and assessment of networking software
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    1. Bachelor's degree (*attach transcript); AND
    2. Current CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), CCNP, or CCIE certificate (*attach certificate); AND
    3. Three (3) years of professional experience in installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting enterprise level local and wide-area networks); AND
    4. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Environment: Work is generally performed in an indoor classroom that may also include working in a lab setting.

    Physical: Primary function requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom and or lab setting and may travel from site to site; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist; to lift carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds or more, carrying supplies, equipment; to operate classroom equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

    Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.

    Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Initial salary placement for this position is from Step 1 to Step 4 depending on the amount of reasonably related experience. The job is a Classified position Level 30, working full time, 40 hours per week, 12 months. These positions serve District-Wide; applicants may be assigned to any district facility.

    The current work schedule is Monday - Thursday 7 am to 4:30 pm and Friday 7:00 am to 11:00 am. Work hours are subject to change depending on department needs.

    A twelve-month probationary period must be successfully completed before the selected candidate is considered a permanent employee of the District. The District provides a contribution towards medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Vacation and sick leave are provided. PERS participation is required for retirement eligible employees. As a condition of employment candidates will be required to complete a live scan for fingerprint clearance and a Tuberculosis (TB) test/Tuberculosis Risk Assessment form developed by the State Department of Public Health. Candidates must have an insurable driver's record.

    The area provides a diverse geography that includes recreational lakes, mountains, desert and wide- open spaces. MSJC is located about 100 miles southeast of Los Angeles and 50 miles west of Palm Springs. There is freeway access to ocean beaches, skiing and cultural offerings in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County. Weekend recreational opportunities are a few hours away in Las Vegas, Arizona and nearby mountain resorts. Local theater productions and art galleries provide year-round entertainment, including the famous Ramona Festival and Pageant.
