Job Description:


The Menu Coordinator / Nutritionist supports the efforts of Amherst College Dining Services by providing effective and accurate management of the software systems used for Menu Management, Nutrition services, and Procurement operations.

The software systems used provide outstanding resources to our employees, customers and the college, and are utilized throughout Dining Services for evaluating financial performance, directing procurement, managing departmental inventories, producing and maintaining recipe data, managing production to forecasts, directing production and service, and producing and maintaining online information about menus, ingredients, allergens and nutritional information.

The Menu Coordinator / Nutritionist also provides Nutrition services for both the departments of Health Services and Dining Services.

The position offers nutritional expertise and resources to students through Dining Services while providing clinical nutritional consultation services under the direction of the Health Center Director (approximately 8 hours per week).

The Menu Manager / Nutritionist serves as a liaison between the Health Center and Dining Services helping to ensure the health and safety of our students as well as all of our dining customers.


Summary of Responsibilities:
Menu Management- Serves in conjunction with the Executive Chef as the contact for all Menu Management Software information within Dining Services including troubleshooting the system; knowledgeable in current best methods- Serves in conjunction with the Executive Chef as the contact for management of Nutrislice digital menu cards & Menu Boards- Evaluates departmental menus for accuracy and variety in areas of dietary needs, nutritional content- Coordinates Inventory Management system to support operational needs and ensure the information pertaining to over 3000 items is accurate and up-to-date for ingredients and allergens Inputs and interprets data daily, providing analysis through insight, observation and reports- Collaborates with Executive Chef/Sous Chef to coordinate accuracy and updates of menu items- Manages the use of the label/sign (physical and digital) printing module to provide for accurate identity of menu items and ingredients provided to our guests including accuracy of allergens and other existing traits- Create the cycle menu in both NetNutrition and NutriSlice

Nutritional Services- Meets with students to assess nutritional needs, adequacy of diet and develops personalized recommendations for dietary modification to improve individual nutrition and lifestyle- Teaches students individually or in groups about relevant nutritional concerns- Develops and/or obtains nutrition education materials- Consults with Health Center and Counseling Center clinical staff regarding medical nutrition therapies or situations that require or benefit from dietary modification


Examples include:
Eating disorders and or Allergen avoidance- Develops And advises students regarding accommodations meal plan modifications- Serves as a member of the Eating Disorder Assessment and Treatment Team- Collaborates with the professional Health Education staff and Student Health Educators in developing appropriate nutrition education programs- Provides nutritional consultation as needed to the Amherst College Accessibility Services Staff- Documents patient encounters in the Health Center electronic medical record


Qualifications:
Required- Master's Degree in Nutrition- 1-2 years of experience with menu management programs including nutritional software programs- 1-3 years of clinical nutrition/nutrition counseling including knowledge of allergens and special diets- Experience in food service and food service systems- Strong written and verbal, interpersonal, customer service, time management and organizational skills- Ability to take initiative, work independently and collaboratively- Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred- Registered Dietitian
