MARKETING STATEMENT


The Police Training Control Tactics Manager will work in The Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD), which is responsible for the enforcement of laws, regulations, and ordinances for crimes committed on, to, or against facilities owned, controlled, or operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.


The Incumbent plans, prepares, and conducts defensive tactics training courses, demonstrates and teaches various defensive tactics skills, evaluates the performance and progress of trainees, maintains accurate records of training activities and outcomes.

The incumbent ensures the proper use and maintenance of training equipment and facilities. The manager collaborates with other instructors and supervisors to develop and ensure consistency and quality of training.

The work includes considerable public contact, routine research tasks and continual compliance with training requirements of Federal, State, and local agencies.

Additionally, this employee works with training officers and administrators of law enforcement agencies to identify and coordinate their training needs beyond the scope of basic law enforcement and mandated in-service training

The minimum annual starting salary for this role is $79,800. Those who are exceptionally qualified may receive a higher starting salary up to $135K.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Science, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Human Resources, or related field.
  • Experience in lieu of degree an additional four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in police personnel and firearms training with the responsibility for research and preparation of reports, maintenance of complex manual and automated record keeping systems, participating in the coordination and scheduling of firearms training programs may be considered.

Experience

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in police weapon systems training with responsibility for research, preparation of reports, maintenance of complex manual and automated record keeping systems, coordinating and scheduling of training programs.

Certification/Licensure

  • Must obtain a valid driver's license within twelve (12) months of hire and must maintain it while in this job.
  • Must obtain the Maryland Police and Correction Training Commission and the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services certification as a Control Tactics Instructor, within twelve (12) months of hire date and maintain it while in this job.
  • Must obtain of or the certification as an ASP Instructor from the Metropolitan Police Department, and the District of Columbia Security Officers Management Branch, within twelve (12) months of hire date and maintain it while in this job.
  • Must obtain a certification as an OC Spray Instructor from the Metropolitan Police Department, and the District of Columbia Security Officers Management Branch within twelve (12) months of hire date and maintain it while in this job.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in police department operations is highly desired.
  • Prior experience in classroom presentation and with adult education techniques.
  • Prior experience with the law enforcement certification processes in Maryland and Virginia is highly desired
