Summary:

Greene County Public Schools is seeking a skilled, energetic, and proactive Public Relations Coordinator to help publicize and highlight the efforts and initiatives at GCPS.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the division's leadership team while making a positive impact on the lives of students, educators, and families within the community.

The Public Relations Coordinator will collaborate with division administrators, educators, and students to create high-quality content that will engage the entire community.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
General expectations are listed below. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Media Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, coordinating interviews, press conferences, and other media engagements. Develop and maintain positive relationships with local journalists and media outlets to ensure accurate and favorable coverage of the school division.
  • Content Creation: Produce highquality written and visual content to promote the achievements, events, and initiatives of the school division. This includes drafting press releases, articles, and social media posts, as well as creating engaging highlight videos and online photo galleries.
  • Photography and Videography: Capture compelling photographs and videos at school events, classrooms, and extracurricular activities. Edit and organize multimedia assets, including school websites and social media platforms.
  • Community Engagement: Collaborate with stakeholders within the school division, including administrators, teachers, students, and parents, to identify storytelling opportunities and showcase the diverse talents and accomplishments within our school division. Develop strategies to enhance public awareness and support for our educational programs.
  • Crisis Communication: Assist in developing crisis communication plans and protocols to effectively manage and respond to sensitive issues or emergencies.
  • Brand Management: Uphold and promote the values of our school division in all communications and interactions. Ensure consistency and coherence across various communication channels, maintaining a positive and reputable image for Greene County Public Schools.

Additional Duties & Assignments

  • Assist the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent in daily administrative operations, including managing correspondence, scheduling meetings, and preparing reports.
  • Attends meetings regarding legal or other confidential matters as directed by the Superintendent.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • A general proficiency in photography and videography, including experience with camera equipment, photo editing software, and video editing tools. Though not required, a basic knowledge of editing software (such as iMovie/Premiere Pro/Final Cut Pro) is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies is desirable.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed to cover school events and activities.
