SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

The school counselor's purpose is to support the administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents of Peninsula Catholic High School in the areas of academic and personal counseling for students in grades 8-12.

This is a 12-month position that reports directly to the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.

The School Counselor's primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assisting the Principal in development of academic programs
Implementing all testing (PSAT and AP)
Coordinating and monitoring all academic records for students
Providing personal counseling for all students
Coordinating academic support services with the Resource Teacher
School counseling budget preparation
College admissions advising

In addition to specific responsibilities listed, a person in this position handles other tasks as they emerge and performs other duties as assigned.

Professional Qualifications:
The School Counselor must demonstrate an understanding of child development and the educational needs of high school students

Other qualifications include:

professional oral and written communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality, computer skills, strong organizational skills, positive attitude, efficiency, and promptness.

Certification:
The Guidance Counselor must be certified or working towards

certification/licensure through the Virginia State Department of Education. This

certification requires a minimum of a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling

(K-12).
