    Position: Mission Assurance Specialist, NH-0301-III, (GS 12/13 Equivalent)

    Location: United States Space Command (USSPACECOM)/J34, Colorado Springs, CO

    Description of Position: Serves as the USSPACECOM Mission Assurance Subject Mater Expert for Space Systems.

    Position Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for analyzing critical infrastructure to identify criticality, threats, and vulnerabilities to the missions.
    • Leads large-scale special projects or tasks assigned by the director, Mission Assurance and Protection division or requested by the Director of Operations.
    • Maintains the USSPACECOM protection plan and prioritized Critical Asset Lists.
    • Coordinates mission assurance activities with other Combatant Commands, other Government Agencies, Allies, and Commercial entities.
    • Supports the development of USSPACECOM OPLANs, CONPLANs, named operations, and supporting plan annexes.
    • Provides Mission Assurance and protection expertise and technical direction to the DoD components in resolving unusually difficult or precedent setting issues (or anomalies).
    • Drafts technical papers and memos for General Officer level consumption and provide technical briefings to senior leadership.

    Key Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of critical infrastructure protection policy and related critical infrastructure protection concepts, principles, and practices related to the USSPACECOM assigned UCP mission areas.
    • Exercises knowledge and skills in determining how USSPACECOM plans/mission requirements relate to and interact with equivalent plans from other Combatant Commands and DOD mission objectives.
    • Ability to plan, organize, and direct projects while navigating through complex issues, and evaluating and resolving technical, administrative, and managerial problems.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to Senior Leadership within the command.
    • Ability to research, analyze, and interpret high-level guidelines including general, DoD, Joint Service, and military service directives and instructions requiring considerable adaptation and/or interpretation for application to issues or problems.

    Qualification Requirements:

    • In-depth knowledge of the DoD, OUSD, Joint Staff and USSPACECOM Mission Assurance programs, instructions, guidelines, processes and procedures is preferred.
    • Expertise in a wide range of space operations, program management, operations research analysis, test and evaluation, federal acquisition process is highly desirable.

    Conditions of Employment:

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance
    • Position requires drug testing
    • Occasional travel away from the regular duty location may be required
    • May be required to work irregular duty hours including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
