Posting Summary

  • Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Work Assistant for the Child Health Institute at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of Dr.

Zhiping Pang (Principal Investigator) the Work Assistant(s) will be responsible for conducting experiments related to animal behavior or stem cell culture and neurodifferentiation.

Applicants should have a broad (college-level) knowledge in neuroscience, genetics, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry. Applicants should have an interest in learning to perform molecular, cellular, and imaging experiments a plus. Must have the ability to work collaboratively and independently.

As part of their professional development to transition to the next phase of their career, the Student Assistants will be trained in improving their experimental design skills and their oral and written presentation skills.

Multiple resources for career development to aid with these requirements will be provided by the PI.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Assist in performing experiments related to synaptic regulation using cultured neurons, cell biology, biochemistry as well as molecular biology.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as centrifuges, electrophoresis, and confocal microscopes.
  • Evaluate existing procedures and propose modifications or changes to keep the methodology and procedures current.
  • Conducting a continuous program of research and development.
  • Perform various research and technical procedures and other related duties, as assigned.
  • Keep detailed records of procedures and experiments; may be required to compile data and present results.
  • Work collaboratively and independently with laboratories and researchers within CHI and Rutgers.
  • Attend and actively participate in both weekly and monthly group research meetings and discussions.
