  • The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages communitybased supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.
  • The Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) is responsible for oversight and management of secure and nonsecure detention services for juveniles (e.g., youths) and adolescent offenders awaiting disposition in family, criminal, and/or supreme courts. The unit oversees the daytoday operation and coordinates educational services at our Non-Secure and Limited Secure facilities for youth who have pending Family Court cases or have been adjudicated Juvenile delinquents and are a risk to the community.
  • Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Administration, this Administrative Assistant will provide direct administrative support to senior leadership and the facility staff overall.

Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the schedule of the Associate Commissioner and other senior staff, as necessary.
  • Serve as the liaison between ACS staff, contracted vendors, stakeholders, community partners, etc.
  • Answer and screen incoming calls and direct them to the appropriate party.
  • Manage incoming correspondence for facility, ensuring timely and accurate sorting and distribution of document.
  • Maintain detention facility forms, revisions and ensure timely distribution as needed.
  • Maintain office supplies inventory, placing orders and distribute to staff as requested.
  • Ensure copiers are functioning optimally, monitor and order machine supplies and repairs as needed.
  • Supervise and assign duties to interns.
  • Maintain Detention staff directories.
  • Prepare mandatory annual recertification documents for secure detention facility.
  • Coordinate and archive detention documents through WITS.
  • Coordinate community volunteer programs.
  • Assist with planning and organizing largescale events, including monthly Staff Wellness.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating programmatic activities and events for youth.
  • File, scan, maintain and share records as assigned.

However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
