POSITION:
Shop Supervisor - Cutting & Parts Department
REPORTS TO:
Shop Foreman and Production Manager
PURPOSE / MISSION (ROLE): Manage the safe and efficient use of all available resources to ensure a quality product is produced and delivered according to schedule in the most cost-effective manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES
:
Safety - Lead employees in the safe operation of all equipment. Instill a culture of zero accidents each day. Document and investigate incidents to continuously improve our safety performance and our safety culture.
- Quality
- Focus on quality issues and errors and take the lead for eliminating root causes.
- Production Planning ability to plan the day for the department based on reasonable estimates of the amount of labor in each batch of work
- Training & Development
- Crosstrain and retrain employees for their daytoday tasks.
- Communication
- Conduct weekly crew meetings that focus on safety, quality, production planning, and company policies and culture
- Daily toolbox talks with employees concerning a safety topic
- Regular communication with other supervisors including:
- Production status
- including warnings when the production plan is not being met
- Batches of work available for fabrication / expected completion of batches
- Availability of manpower
- Active Management
- Being proactive
- Giving daily assignments with expectations and following up on those assignments. Provide feedback/coaching to meet safety, quality, and production requirements.
- Redeploying manpower based on the production plan, available manpower, and the flow of work.
EDUCATION /
TRAINING:
High School Diploma or
GED
EXPERIENCE:
Four or more years of industry experience. Experience with leading others is essential.
OTHER
:
Ability to read and interpret Structural fabrication drawings.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Use of judgement to plan, perform, and make decisions as to the sequences of setups, operations, and processes within the limitations of recognized or standard methods and procedures.
- Great communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Organizational skills
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the associated technical disciplines.
- Ability to interpret data to come to conclusions when all of the information is not available
- Working knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Office Applications
- Able to lead, motivate, and inspire employees within a team environment
