- Prepare meals and food to meet specifications set forth by Chef in a timely manner
- Properly measure kitchen ingredients and food portions
- Ensure kitchen staff adhere to set standards, procedures, department rules and sanitation requirements.
- Ensure proper food temperatures when cooking and proper storage afterward
- Keep the workstation and kitchen equipment clean, organized and sanitized
- Taking charge of kitchen opening, closing and other side duties as directed by the Executive Chef
- Exceptional cooking skills
- Ability to effectively manage the kitchen staff, motivate them and assign duties fairly
- Familiarity with the best practices in the hotel and catering services industry
- Knowledge of health and safety standards
- Ability to multitask and work quickly under pressure
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic and a team work mentality
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in similar role

Position Summary
The Boone Art of Living Retreat Center is an award-winning mountain top wellness center in beautiful Boone, NC. Surrounded by nature, we offer immersive experiences through the powerful practices of meditation, mindfulness, yoga, and Ayurveda.
We operate a fully Plant Based kitchen. While you are not required to follow this lifestyle yourself, you are expected to respect and be excited about these philosophies of cooking. We believe in an inclusive and respectful work environment.
We are seeking a creative and experienced Sous Chef who can provide supportive leadership to kitchen and dining staff. Their responsibilities include overseeing preparation and cooking of meals for our buffet service as well as managing the daily flow of the kitchen. The Sous Chef is to assist the Head Chef in monitoring kitchen operations.
