Job Summary


The Quality Assurance Regulatory/Compliance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring labeling compliance and managing and supporting quality programs, particularly those relating to label development and compliance, supply chain integrity, and compliance with third-party food safety standards and regulations.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities (not restrictive)

QA DUTIES AND LABELING COMPLIANCE

  • Communicate using askFSIS platform with policy development personnel regarding labeling uncertainties during approval process.
  • Perform and implement label verification training using an online alchemy database as well as in person training.
  • Evaluate label inventory and verify compliance with USDA or In-House label approval.
  • Manage regulatory documentation: Organize and manage records of USDA and In-House label approvals. Perform preshipment reviews for product.
  • Identify, implement, and/or track quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with Redzone compliance module implementation and management.
SALES, R&D, AND PROJECTS SUPPORT

  • Manage customerrequired questionnaires, document uploads, and approval process for new customers.
  • Consult on compliance of product label artwork.
  • Develop and maintain running checklist of label compliance requirements.
  • Create nutrition facts panels using data from laboratory results and supplier specifications.
  • Plan and implement internal approval process for label proofs from label print suppliers.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments regarding label inconsistencies and future product label alterations/additions/reviews.
  • Consult on accuracy of finished product specifications, including ingredient statements and nutritional information.
  • Contribute as QA liaison to the Sustainability committee and assist with related needs.
  • Represent QA in companywide initiatives, product development lifecycle and other special project teams.

PROGRAM MAINTENANCE AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE SUPPORT

  • Interface with sales department and external material suppliers to secure required documentation and information.
  • Manage the Supplier Approval Program; onboard suppliers to the program and requalify them as needed; manage, control, and update supplier approval documents as required by the program.
  • Manage Supplier Questionnaire webpage.
  • Facilitate document preparation for thirdparty, customer, and regulatory body audits.
  • Facilitate thirdparty or customer audits and assist in implementing any program improvements and developments (SQF/Organic/Costco/WM/Target/SMETA 4 Pillar).
  • Develop training materials for annual food safety and quality refresher training courses for employees across the company.
GENERAL/OTHER

  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) training, along with company prerequisite programs, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Following set company and OSHA safety rules, regulations, and guidelines at all times.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualification & Experience Requirements

Education, Training:


  • Bachelor's degree in food science or related field.
  • SQF Practitioner training and experience with audits.
  • Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles.

Experience Required:


  • 12 years' labeling compliance training and experience, preferred.
  • Experience with thirdparty audits.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include overtime and weekends on short notice.

Language, Computer & Numeracy:


  • SAP knowledge preferred.
  • Labeling software (nutritional facts panel using software or calculation).
  • Working knowledge of computers and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and write in the English language.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals, unit of measure conversions.
