    Florida Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Payment Program

    Persons who gain or are appointed as full-time Certified Law Enforcement Officers with a Florida criminal justice agency on or after July 1, 2022 and who have never previously been employed as a Law Enforcement Officer within the State of Florida, are eligible for a One-Time Bonus Payment of $5,000.

    Bonus payments are considered to be taxable income, and will be issued by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) in the gross amount of $6,694 (includes $1,694 for the payment of taxes). The DEO remains responsible for issuing payments and enforcing repayment, should the recipient leave employment as a Law Enforcement Officer before the two-year agreement has been completed.     The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is now accepting pre-screen questionnaires for the position of DEPUTY SHERIFF. The position of Deputy Sheriff performs law enforcement and public safety work in the protection of life and property, and the execution of orders issued through the jurisdiction of the Sheriff.

    For individuals hired after October 1, 2023, the starting salary is $52, $23.26 per hour), plus the potential for additional holiday pay up to $2,800 for those employees who work twelve (12) hour shifts.     Typical Duties

    • Identifies and resolves problems in area served; develop strategies, programs, and crime prevention methods and facilitates community interest and involvement in a variety of endeavors intended to enhance community life. Interacts with and attends Neighborhood Watch homeowner association meetings and serves as a liaison to various committees as assigned
    • Enforces/ensures compliance with Federal and State laws, local ordinances, and judicial compliance orders; Contacts and monitors career criminals, early release inmates and probationers to facilitate successful re-integration back into the community
    • Enters crime and other reports into laptop computers; prepares investigative and other reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols, and mathematical computations
    • Gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of victims, witnesses, suspects and confidential informers
    • Apprehends fleeing suspects and performs rescue operations at accidents, emergencies, and disasters to include directing traffic for long periods of time; administering emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging, and carrying people away from dangerous situations; and securing and evacuating people from particular areas
    • Loads, unloads, aims, and fires from a variety of body positions, handguns, shotguns, and other agency approved firearms under conditions of stress that justify the use of deadly force and at levels of proficiency prescribed in certification standards
    • Reads and comprehends legal and non-legal documents, including the preparation and processing of such documents as citations, affidavits, and warrants
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age
    • Applicants must be a United States citizen
    • Applicants must have a High School Diploma or GED
    • Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License
    • Applicants must possess a State of Florida Certificate of Completion and/or Certification of Compliance. Law Enforcement Academy students are eligible to apply, but must currently be enrolled in a Law Enforcement Academy before submitting a Pre-Screen Questionnaire.
    • Must pass a physical examination with drug screening by a licensed physician
    • All applicants must submit to a background investigation in accordance with FDLE standards
    • Must not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, nor have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License
    • All applicants will be required to take a Physical Abilities Test (P.A.T.), Civil Service written examination, and Firearms qualification. Applicants must score at least 70% on the Civil Service examination in each of the four (4) sections (math, reading comprehension, grammar, and report writing) and must pass the firearms qualification test with a score of 32 out of 40

    Regular and prompt attendance is mandatory in the performance of an employee's duties for this position, to include schedules work hours, and required training activities, calls for mandatory overtime needs and call for service during times of an emergency.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    The work environment for this position is in a Sheriff's Office marked emergency vehicle.

    The incumbent drives a vehicle and extensive walking is required when not in the vehicle.

    PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIREMENTS

    Mobility-Frequent standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, walking for extended periods of time, stooping, bending, climbing stairs, running, required to drive an agency vehicle and/or transport inmates; constant use of a computer; use of a firearm.

    Lifting-Able to lift 50 pounds.

    Visual-Constant overall binocular vision; constant color perception, constant eye-hand coordination; constant depth perception; frequent reading/close-up work; constant field of vision/peripheral.

    Dexterity-Frequent repetitive motion and reaching;

    Hearing/Talking-Constant requirement to hear normal speech; constant hearing on telephone and radio; ability to hear faint sounds; constant talking on telephone/radio.

    Emotional/Psychological- Potential contact with hostile individuals; direct inmate contact, exposure to emergency situations; may be exposed to trauma, grief and death; frequent public contact; decision-making and concentration.

    Special Requirements-Ability to behave respectably and with utmost integrity even when off duty. Shift work (days or nights) with rotating days off including working weekends, nights, holidays, and/or overtime; May be required to respond for any critical incident, manmade or natural; must be able to appropriately wear and operate personal protective equipment as assigned for their role.

    Environmental- Exposure to varied weather conditions.

Any dishonesty or deception on the Pre-Screen Questionnaire or Employment Application will disqualify your application.

    The background investigation process may take 3-6 months depending upon the complexity of the applicant's background. Applicants selected for employment will be provided a conditional offer and required to submit to a medical examination with drug screening.
