Duties:


  • Collaborate with department heads, division officers, and other health care providers to develop, implement, evaluate and updates policies and procedures related to health promotion programs.
  • Develop and implement educational programs, seminars, workshops, short courses and informational meetings for health care providers and nonmedical personnel to promote the continued enrichment of knowledge regarding health promotion.
  • Conduct group and individual training and lifestyle assessments, addressing elements of the Wellness Program at flexible locations.
  • Attend continuing education programs, seminars and conferences in order to maintain competency in health promotion and to keep abreast of health promotion education and research.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of health education, informational materials, and programs developed.

  • This position may be designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or preexisting immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
  • This position requires the completion of a preemployment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Basic Requirement for Public Health Educator:

Degree:

Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in health education, health management, education, sociology, community development, social work, or educational psychology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: analyzing health-related data to manage an effective outcome-based promotion program; developing informational materials for health promotion; AND evaluating the effectiveness of health programs developed. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
  • OR
  • Education: Ph.
D.

or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as:
health education, health management, education, sociology, community development, social work, or educational psychology.

  • OR
  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
