Introduction:


THE CITY OF OCEANSIDE IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.

  • Under supervision, performs a variety of semiskilled automotive service preventive maintenance tasks and other related work as required.

Examples of Duties:


  • The Garage Service Worker maintains and lubricates trucks, tractors, power mowers, graders and similar motorized equipment with fuel, oil, and grease using air pressure and hand lubrication tools; performs oil and filter changes; sands and paints varied equipment; drives truck to parts house to pick up automotive and heavy equipment parts required by equipment mechanics; changes and repairs tires; may assist equipment mechanics with mechanical repair and adjustment in a training capacity; operates tow truck when necessary; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


Knowledge of:


  • The use of oils, greases, oil and lubricating tools, and other materials used in maintenance and lubrication of motorized mechanical equipment.

Ability to:


  • Make minor adjustments or repairs to automotive and heavy equipment.
  • Drive a wide variety of motor vehicles.
  • Maintain repair and service records.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Experience and Training

Experience:
One year of experience servicing automotive equipment.


Training:
Graduation from high school.


License/Certificates:
Possession of, or the ability to obtain and maintain, a valid, California driver's license.


Working Conditions and Selection Process:


Environmental Conditions:
Garage environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, fumes, gases, toxic chemicals, solvents and electrical energy.


Physical Conditions:

Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, bending, stooping, kneeling or standing for prolonged periods of time; heavy, moderate or light lifting; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.


Note:
Prospective employees will undergo, and must successfully pass, a background reference check (including fingerprinting) and a medical examination. Drug screening may be required.
