CLASSROOM ASSISTANT
(2 Positions OPEN)

CLASSIFICATION:
PART-TIME, EXEMPT


REPORTS TO:

DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

Overview of Position:


A Classroom Assistant, under general supervision, provides assistance to a classroom teacher/teachers, performing a variety of tasks relating to the physical and instructional needs of students in a classroom setting; assists in the implementation of instructional programs, including self-help and behavior management as well as instruction.

The Classroom Assistant performs related duties as required or assigned.


Essential Duties

  • Carries to completion in a timely manner, instructional and supportive activities as assigned by the supervising teacher.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with supervising teacher to determine student needs and supports
  • Support supervising teacher with duties involving recess and lunch monitoring.
  • Support supervising teacher with clerical work such as making copies, grading, filing, etc
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Experience in a school is preferred but not required.

Required Spiritual Qualifications

Required Skills:


  • Sensitivity and understanding for building good relationships with children.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills for motivating children to learn.
  • Active listening skills to understand the childrens' needs.
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently under varying deadlines
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Able to identify sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

Performs all other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibility
None.


Required Hours
Hours may vary depending on classroom need.


Physical Requirements

  • Sit/Stand for long periods of time.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, walk, talk, read, see and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to type, handle, or feel and reach. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
