    Description


    The Microsoft System Engineer will be responsible for providing customer support, deploying mission critical servers, creating, and updating technical and procedural documentation, analyzing, and resolving complex technical issues, directing timely resolution of server hardware and OS issues with HP and MS support, and implementing cutting edge technologies in Azure and Microsoft 365.

    Expected to display technical competency, business acumen, fiscal responsibility, customer advocacy, and a high level of commitment to achieving the goals of Marquette University.

    Duties and Responsibilities


    • Planning and implementation of Azure and Microsoft 365 services in support of various projects.
    • Planning and implementation of Microsoft Windows Server environment in support of various projects.
    • Demonstrating strict adherence to enterprise change control process.
    • Implementing solutions that ensure the integrity and security of Marquette University data.
    • Following Microsoft Best Practices on server design and deployment.
    • Ensuring optimal performance of the Microsoft environment.
    • Recommending and implementing techniques to improve productivity, increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and maintaining industry standard practices.
    • Participating in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours support to ensure availability of Marquette University Systems.
    • Researching, testing, and implementing Windows Server upgrades and patches.
    • Working closely with IT Services colleagues in providing a reliable computing environment and excellent customer service.
    • Keeping abreast of current trends and practices in field of expertise.
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    3-5 years of experience in an IT environment.
    Minimum of 2 years of experience managing a Windows Server Environment or Microsoft 365 and Azure.

    Ability to work nights and weekends as required.
    Strong customer service orientation.
    Excellent communication skills.
    Ability to work with multiple groups across the University.
    Proficient technical knowledge.
    High level of integrity.

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Experience managing:

    HP Proliant servers, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Exchange Online, Microsoft Active Directory Domain Services; Sharepoint Online; Microsoft Teams, Windows Virtual Desktop, Microsoft Hyper-V, Microsoft System Center products, assisting with server capacity planning, and powershell.

    Microsoft certification a plus.
