Summary of Responsibilities


The Middle School Computer Science Teacher is responsible for teaching students to become proficient and comfortable with utilizing age appropriate technological tools and programming concepts.

Additional responsibilities include a focus on Maker project collaboration with the K-12 faculty and nurturing interdisciplinary learning opportunities as a means of expression, presentation, communication, and research.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an innovative, interactive, engaging, and evolving computer science curriculum with a strong focus on computational thinking, programming logic, digital fluency and citizenship
  • Foster a variety of technological skills in students while utilizing educational technology and computer science platforms, with proficiency in MacOS
  • Create an inclusive and engaging classroom environment that employs effective and differentiated teaching strategies and assessments to support diverse levels of technical ability and skill sets
  • Maintain organization and inventory management of the Makerspace
  • Develop, support, and coordinate programs including, but not limited to:
  • Spearheading the preparation for the state STEM Fair participation
- the initiative to work, plan, and partner with colleagues to incorporate Maker projects that complement curricula in meaningful and authentic ways, challenging students to combine classroom concepts with new skills (fabrication, electronics design, welding, programming)

  • Support the growth of the STEM instructional program
  • Demonstrate active, positive, and professional participation in faculty meetings and effective, eager engagement with students, families, colleagues, and administration
  • Participate in ongoing professional development related to emerging technologies, curriculum design, and pedagogies relevant to computer science and the impact current trends have on Middle School students
  • At least five years' experience in education, as well as a Bachelor's or Master's degree and a successful track record of designing and implementing technology curricula
  • Experience utilizing projectbased learning and design thinking
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Demonstrative, instinctive aptitude and broad knowledge of Maker tools and computer science education, including ageappropriate programming languages, curricula, computer functionality, and educational technology tools, including, but not limited to Scratch, Processing, Blockly, LEGO Robotics, Google Suite, Canva, , CNC machines, AI and ChatGPT, and CAD software.
  • Strong communication (written and oral), organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Positivity, energy, and a deep commitment to collaborating with others
