Under general supervision, the Traffic Signs Maintenance Worker III leads, plans, schedules, and oversees the work of Traffic Signs Maintenance Workers while performing the same and/or more difficult duties in the fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic signs, street markings, and other non-electrical traffic control devices in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County.

Ensures completion of tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures; communicates policies, procedures and job expectations; and provides training to staff.

  • California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices standards and specifications
  • Safe operation and use of road striping, pavement marking, thermoplastic, and painting vehicles
  • Methods, materials, equipment, tools, and techniques used in the fabrication installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic signs, street markings, and other non
- electrical traffic control devices

  • Safety regulations related to traffic signs maintenance

Ability to

  • Lead and train Traffic Signs Maintenance Worker staff
  • Plan, coordinate, assign, and review the work of staff
  • Provide work direction and instruction
  • Research and evaluate work problems, and recommend solutions
  • Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with others
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Operate, maintain, and repair paint pumps, applicator sprayers, and other equipment used in traffic signs and street markings
  • Read and interpret simple dimensions on blueprints, construction plans, maps, and drawings related to traffic signs and marking
  • Monitor and report inventory of supplies, tools, and materials used in traffic maintenance work
  • Place cones, barricades, warning devices, and direct the flow of traffic at job sites
  • Read, write, and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance
  • Stay current with technological changes in the transportation signs field

Employment Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications


Two years of full-time paid experience in the fabrication, installation, repair, or maintenance of traffic signs, markings and/or other non-electrical traffic control devices.


Note:

If the word "experience" is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable.

Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.


General Qualifications

License Requirement:

A valid California Driver License, Commercial Class B or higher, issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles is required at the time of appointment.

Incumbents may be required to obtain a Tanker Endorsement and/or Hazardous Materials Endorsement issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 90 days of written notification.

Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate California Driver License and/or Endorsements may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement.

Certification Requirements:
A basic CPR/First Aid certification shall be required for all positions in this class.

Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate certification may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement.

Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class require the incumbents to be able to:

  • Climb up and down ladders and stand on a ladder while performing tasks with both hands.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull heavy equipment and tools weighing up to 50 pounds; over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Load and unload equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds; over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Demonstrate color vision sufficient to distinguish paint colors used on the job.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, and reach above the shoulder.
  • Perform heavy manual labor such as digging post holes using a manual post hole digger and/or digging bar.
