Position Overview:


We are searching for a qualified Accounting Assistant to be responsible for all general ledger functions of the credit union, in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures.

Prepare entries and adjustments to the general ledger as required. Assist in fulfilling financial reporting requirements as directed by Accounting Officer.

Education and Experience:

  • Education: Associates college degree or bachelor's degree required. Technical training or equivalent work experience coupled with financial related seminars and special training preferred.
  • Experience: Previous financial experience in the accounting, finance, cash management or teller area highly desired, but not required. Knowledge of accounting principles.

Skills:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of bookkeeping.
  • Effective oral, phone and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions on issues and justify them.
  • Ability to deal with details effectively; good aptitude with numbers.
  • Skilled in the use of office machines, computers and various software (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people.
  • Demonstrated effective analytical and decisionmaking.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use the hands to finger, handle, or feel/discern objects, tools, or controls, such as, but not limited to: CRT, typewriter, cash and 10key calculator. The employee is also required to talk and hear and is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift, and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Requirements:


  • Balance, reconcile and report credit union's cash and financial activity on a daily basis.
  • Assist in the preparation of bank reconciliations as directed by Accounting Officer.
  • Maintain data contained in the general ledger, and various spreadsheet reports and assure accuracy of recorded financial transactions (includes fixed asset schedules, prepaid expenses, DC personal property taxes).
  • Maintain and post transactions to general ledger accounts.
  • Build and post Fed Wires; maintain and reconcile Federal Reserve Account transactions.
  • Receive, sort and proof accounting documents.
  • Maintain and post accounts payable transactions. File paid bills as appropriate and on a current basis.
  • Receive, verify and reimburse employee, volunteer and Board member conference and travel expenses.
  • Assist in the preparation of recurring monthly journal entries, as directed by Accounting Officer.
  • Provide operational and member services support in all areas when needed. Perform other credit union functions and responsibilities as required or assigned.
  • Perform other accounting duties as directed by Accounting Officer.
  • Assume oversight duties of Accounting Officer in their absence.
