    Are you interested in keeping Pennsylvania buildings safe? The Department of General Services is looking for a dedicated Safety Inspector to complete our team.

    This position gives you the opportunity to work within many different disciplines and specialties including fire and sprinkler system maintenance.

    Work includes responding to life safety emergencies, handling environmental and hazardous materials situations, and interacting with many different agencies. Bring your skills to our department as you begin a challenging yet rewarding career with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.


    DESCRIPTION OF WORK


    In this role, you will be maintaining and inspecting all life safety equipment of the Department's managed and/or owned Buildings, by responding to any/all fire, safety, or environmental situations that occur.


    Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

    • Inspecting and maintaining all fire and sprinkler equipment
    • Attending and providing fire and safety training
    • Maintaining Right to Know information
    • Conducting building safety and air quality inspections
    • Supervising and participating in HAZMAT abatement projects
    • Researching all applicable laws, codes, and regulations as it pertains life safety matters
    • Responding to all life safety emergencies
    • Preparing a daily activity report of all activities and fire alarm deficiencies to Fire and Safety Supervisory staff

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

    • Full-time employment
    • Work hours are 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
    • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    • Successful completion of the Safety Inspector Trainee program; or
    • One year of experience inspecting commercial, industrial, healthcare or other buildings or structures, machines, apparatus, devices or equipment for compliance with applicable safety codes and regulations; or
    • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Condition of Employment:

    • This position does require the possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

    Additional Requirements:

    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

    Preferred Qualifications (not required):

    • Two years experience inspecting fire alarm and sprinkler systems
    • Two years experience of safety training or inspections

    Post-Employment Requirements:

    • You will be required to obtain 40-Hour Hazwopper License within probationary period.
    • You will be required to obtain Asbestos Supervisor/Contractor License within probationary period.
    • You will be required to complete Permit Required Confined Space Entrant, Attendant and Supervisor Training within the probationary period.
