Example of Duties
Supervises the activities of the Engineering and Planning Division. Serves as the Department's Project Manager for large design and construction projects (over $100 Million).
These projects are highly controversial and sensitive environmentally and to the public, and require significant coordination with stakeholders, public advocacy groups, state and federal agencies, and other Municipal departments.
This position entails professional engineering and management work requiring use of considerable independent judgment and initiative toward engineering projects concerned with planning, design, location, construction and maintenance of Municipal structures associated with solid waste management.
Position is responsible for environmental management and regulatory compliance at all of the Department's active and closed sites.This position exercises supervisory responsibility for four positions, an Engineer II, Engineering Intern, Engineering Technician I/II and an Engineering Technician III/IV.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely related field, and eight (8) years of progressively responsible engineering experience, of which two (2) years must have been involved in managing the construction of large engineering capital projects.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicles' driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.

Military Service Interview Preference:

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules D must attach proof of current service to the application.
Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment.
The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service.
