Compensation:
$ $17.74 per hour


Program Hours: 24-hour Intermediate Care facilities licensed by Department of Public Health or Community Care licensing. Work hours to be assigned by supervisor. Work hours may be changed depending on the needs of the home.

Position Summary


Under supervision, assist with ensuring that the day-to-day needs of the residents are met in accordance with Exceptional Children's Foundation (ECF) policy and regulatory requirements related to licensed facilities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend to the personal needs of residents in a respectful and caring manner. Assist with residents' personal hygiene needs including, but not limited to toileting, bathing, dressing, incidents of incontinence, and changing bedding if necessary. Ensure residents are appropriately groomed by following individual service plan (ISP) goals and recommended prompting levels. Assist and support residents with daily chores including changing sheets and doing laundry.
  • Supervise residents during meal preparation, ensuring adherence to menus and diet. Encourage familystyle dining by eating with the residents during regular mealtimes.
  • Report all pertinent information regarding client care to the RN and QIDP as appropriate. Document all pertinent information using the client data collection book and staff communication log.
  • Be familiar with the residents' Individual Program Plan (IPP) objectives and ensure the plan is followed, participating with prompts/actions when required. Write progress reports on ISP objectives on a daily basis.
  • Administer medications to residents, following the medication administration policy. Report discrepancies to the Registered Nurse (RN) and Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) immediately.
  • Interact with the residents when on the premises or during community outings (medical appointments or social outings).
  • Follow staff assignment schedule, ensure you complete all tasks for your assigned clients.
  • Follow posted cleaning schedule to ensure that all common areas of the home are clean and wellmaintained.
  • Perform household tasks as assigned, including but not limited to: completing food service tasks, laundry, etc.
  • Transport residents in a 1215 passenger van to social activities and medical appointments.
  • Attend all inservice trainings as required by the licensing and the Residential Manager.

Other Duties

  • Communicate in a respectful and professional manner with residents, family members, visitors etc. Questions related to the care of the residents should be directed to the Residential Manager or QIDP.
  • Maintain confidentiality and objectivity at all times.
  • Comply with ECF's Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
  • Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Licenses/Certifications:
N/A


Experience:
Two years direct service with special needs population or experience working in a Long-Term Care facility. May substitute CNA or EMT certification in lieu of experience.


Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:


  • Successfully pass a reading, writing, and English comprehension test.
  • Basic knowledge of residential home operations.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to Universal Safety signs.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to comprehend directions regarding work to be performed and safety guidelines to be followed.
  • Maintain a professional image while on duty by following ECF's dress code.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information.

Requirements:


  • To encourage family style dining, all staff must eat with the clients during regular mealtimes. Additionally, staff must eat the same food as the clients (except for medical reasons, allergies, etc.).
  • Staff may only eat at scheduled mealtimes and may not prepare snacks, etc., for personal consumption outside of their mealtime.
  • When a field trip/outing falls at mealtime, staff will be given $7.00 for the cost of food; any additional cost must be paid by the staff. Staff also have the choice of preparing and taking food from the facility for consumption during a field trip/outing.
  • When the field trip/outing falls outside of the mealtime, staff may not use the facility money to purchase snacks/drinks. They may take a personal drink from the facility.
