    Position Summary

    The Martin Center Lead Desk Assistant is responsible for administrative and staff duties at the Martin Center Front Desk. The Lead Desk Assistant will work closely with the Desk Assistants under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life
    The position would start Summer 2024 and continue through academic year. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the Martin Center Front Desk is kept tidy, presentable and stocked
  • Assist supervisor with desk operational tasks and scheduling as needed
  • Create ways to engage DAs in their role at the desk
  • Approve, post signs and fliers in Martin Center as well as ensure that out of date flyers are removed
  • Maintain a weekly inventory of desk equipment and supplies through Starrez Resources Module
  • Ensure printers at Martin Center Front Desk and in DoSA suite are stocked with paper and ink
  • Notify supervisor of any supplies or equipment that need to be replaced
  • Update University phone line Voicemail message as needed
  • Help maintain the Division of Student Affair email by checking the email regularly, responding to emails or forwarding email to the appropriate personnel
  • Arranging for the setup of tables and chairs when Organizations or groups make reservations for tabling through Student Activities.
  • Serve as a liaison between the DA staff and supervisor
  • Organize, track and follow up with DA shift changes through Microsoft Shifts
  • Participate in year-round DA interview processes
  • Assist in DA training throughout the year as requested by supervisor
  • Establish strong and sustainable communication efforts between DAs (Teams, email communication etc.)
  • Communicate with supervisor on a regular basis regarding desk activities
  • Participate in biweekly one-on-ones with supervisor
  • Address, document and notify supervisor of any issues related to DA staff performance and/or discipline
  • Notify supervisor of any issues requiring attention or intervention
  • Answer phone calls to main line of university, the Division on Student Affairs, Residence Life, and Student Engagement.
  • Accurately direct calls to the proper location or take messages for appropriate personnel.
  • Provide prompt, friendly service to all customers (residents, staff, faculty, parents, and guests).
  • Act as an information source about the department, the University, and the University Center.
  • Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with staff, faculty and students
  • Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
  • Maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA.
  • Will be required to go through Starrez Resources Module training
  • Experience
  • Previous experience as a Martin Center Desk Assistant is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience in student leadership
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to balance collaborative and independent work.
  • Excellent written, oral, social media-based and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge in using Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to articulate passion and support for all students regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, nationality and/or language.
  • Ability to attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Ability to demonstrate a cooperative attitude while working with a diverse student population.

  • Spanish speaking preferred.
