- Conduct Initial Psychological Assessments:
- Perform structured interviews and administer written psychological tests to assess the suitability of VA police officer applicants.
- Evaluate emotional and mental stability to determine capability to meet job requirements, including the carrying and use of firearms.
- Identify any potential emotional or mental conditions that could pose risks during stress situations or physical altercations.
- Perform Annual Psychological Assessments:
- Conduct verbal interviews with incumbent VA police officers to assess job-related factors and emotional stability.
- Address any concerns that arise during the evaluation process and recommend appropriate actions if necessary.
- Ensure Compliance with VA Regulations and Directives:
- Adhere to VA Directive and Handbook 0730 for psychological testing standards for VA Police.
- Follow guidelines outlined in Directive and Handbook 0720 regarding VA Firearm Policy.
- Stay updated on any changes or revisions to VA regulations related to psychological assessments for police officers.
- Collaborate with VA Facility Director and Chief of Staff:
- Work closely with VA leadership to ensure that personnel qualifications meet credentialing and privileging requirements.
- Provide expertise and recommendations regarding the psychological fitness of VA police officers.
- Maintain Professional Credentials and Expertise:
- Possess a full and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- Hold a doctorate from an American Psychological Association (APA) approved graduate program.
- Demonstrate expertise in performing psychological assessments on police officers and/or police officer applicants.
- Maintain board certification in Forensics by the American Board of Behavioral Psychology (ABBP), if applicable.
- Uphold Ethical Standards and Confidentiality:
- Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and standards of practice in conducting psychological assessments.
- Maintain confidentiality of assessment results and sensitive information related to applicants and officers.
- Doctorate degree from an APA approved graduate program in psychology.
- Full and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- Experience working with adults and conducting psychological assessments.
- Expertise in performing specifically focused psychological exams for police officers.
- Board certification in Forensics by the American Board of Behavioral Psychology (ABBP) preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with VA leadership and personnel.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality.
- Compliance with VA regulations regarding personnel qualifications and certifications.
