Position Summary/Functions:


The newly establishedUTMB,**Sealy Institute for Drug Discovery seeks outstanding Artificial Intelligence (machine learning)

  • Proficiency in Python and R as well as key frameworks for AI development (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with core bioinformatics tools and software, such as Bioconductor and Biopython
  • Familiarity with pipeline development and ability to work with teams to scale and operationalize new models and training regimes.
  • Expertise in current models and paradigms such as transformers, graph neural networks, and embeddings.
  • Knowledge of biological and chemical data formats and standards, such as FASTA, FASTQ, BAM, VCF, BED, GFF, PDB, and SDF.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary and dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong problemsolving and critical thinking skills.
  • High motivation and passion for bioinformatics and biomedical research.

Position Requirements:


  • Ph.
D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, computer science, or a related field.

  • Postdoctoral or equivalent experience.
  • At least 35 years of experience in bioinformatics pipeline development and machine learning in a research setting.
