    Who we are

    Undergraduate Strategic Partnerships collaborates with the College Advising Corps (CAC) to ensure every student has an opportunity to enter and complete college. We serve more than 50 high schools spread across the state in Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston, Brazos Valley, and Rio Grande Valley regional areas. In an effort to increase the number of low-income, underrepresented, and first-generation students pursuing higher education, the Texas A&M program hires, trains, and places exceptional recent college graduates from all fields of study to serve as full time, near-peer college advisers in underserved high schools.

    The College Recruitment Advisor, under direction of the Texas A&M Advise TX College Advising Corps chapter, assists high school students to research, apply to and enroll in colleges that will serve them well.     What you need to know

    Hourly Rate: $16.39 (Non-negotiable)

    Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an institution in the state of Texas.
  • No experience required
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, verbal, presentation and leadership skills.
  • Ability to relate well with a high school student population.
  • Ability to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to use word processing programs and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work as a regional/off-site team member in a dynamic organization, possessing a positive attitude and excellent customer service orientation.
  • Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to make decisions independently and, at times, with little to no direction.
  • Self-directed, initiator, and problem-solver.
  • Ability to work urgently on multiple tasks at once in a fast paced and results oriented environment.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with a number of teams and individuals to accomplish the goals of the program.
  • Commitment to the success of high school students through the college application process.
  • Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with others.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with high school students.
  • Experience working with Admissions and/or Financial Aid.
  • Background in general office conditions with significant time spent working with high school students.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Responsibilities

  • Advising - Provides one-on-one admissions and financial-aid advice to any student or family seeking assistance. Encourages each student to consider a broad range of appropriate college choices. Develops for each student a comprehensive college timeline, including application deadlines for admissions and financial aid. Helps each student complete and submit admissions, scholarships, and financial aid applications. Assists each student in interpreting correspondence from colleges, including offers of admission and financial aid. May travel to various high schools and other locations to perform advising and program work.
  • Coordinating - Organizes group events that encourage students and their families to consider, plan for, and apply to colleges and universities. Visits classrooms, assemblies, and club meetings to offer Advise TX services and emphasize the importance of college. Visits feeder middle schools to encourage early planning for college. Works with local community groups and other social-service providers to offer group events outside school setting and community service hours.
  • Assisting - Assists in the efforts of other Advise TX advisers within the service area and in the assessment and long-term sustainability of the program. Visits other high schools in their assigned service area during school days. Helps organize, provide support for, and attend evening and weekend events organized by other adviser(s). Assists the program manager and evaluation staff to identify, collect, and interpret key progress and outcome variables to evaluate the effectiveness of the Advise TX program. Submits monthly progress reports to the program manager documenting progress and outcome data. Meets, as appropriate, with evaluators from the National Office or Texas A&M - Represent Advise TX, as requested by the program manager, to potential supporters and to other interested parties.
  • Partnerships - Establishes productive working relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers in the assigned high school. Assesses, in consultation with the Advise TX program manager and school personnel, the particular needs of each school and adapts programs and activities to meet these needs. Actively seeks the advice and counsel of the on-site supervisor at each partner high school.
  • Knowledge - Maintains expertise in admissions and financial-aid advising. Participates fully in four weeks of residential training each summer on the Texas A&M campus. In consultation with the program manager, seeks out and participates in other opportunities for professional development. Performs other duties as assigned.
