Summary of Position:
The classroom paraprofessional works as a member of the classroom team in conjunction with the teacher, providing clinical interventions for emotionally disturbed students and assisting in the maintenance of the integrity of the educational environment within the community of the classroom by performing the following duties:


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide daily, integrated/ageappropriate clinical interventions for assigned students including the hourly completion of point sheets and feedback to students twice daily; incorporate specialized individual programming designed to meet students' specific needs.
  • Develop IEP goals with benchmarks and functional analysis designed to limit behavioral interference within the classroom environment, document on benchmark progress.
  • Provide written documentation in the format of the quarterly grade report and periodic behavioral data collection for the purpose of analyzing/interpreting for special programming.
  • Develop partnership and sustained communication with parents in the interest of the student to be accomplished through home/school meetings, daily log, and phone calls.
  • Assist classroom teacher during academic periods to meet the individual educational needs of all assigned students.
  • Facilitate processing of Student Support Area usage and ensure documentation is completed and filed in a timely manner.
  • Provide twice weekly, curriculum based social skills sessions with assigned students including collecting data documenting progress on a quarterly basis.
  • Cofacilitate physical education classes; take the role of coaching, supervising social interaction, and demonstrating positive encouragement for all students; cofacilitate group therapy by providing clinical insight to students and monitoring student behaviors to maintain the integrity of the group.
  • Serve on committees and assists with various special programs throughout the school year.
  • Follow and enact the school's established Discipline and RTO policy.

Technical Requirements - Education, Areas of Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology
  • A minimum of oneyear experience in working with severely, emotionally/behaviorally disordered children and adolescents.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, parents and the general public.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Behavioral Requirements - Personal Skills and Competencies:

  • The interpersonal skills necessary to interact with students in an appropriate clinical fashion and to maintain professional relationships with colleagues, referring school districts, and parents.
  • The analytical ability necessary to develop specialized/individualized behavior plans for students.
  • The ability to be flexible to adapt to the needs of the students and program.
