This posting is to establish a pool of qualified applicants. The department may not be actively recruiting. Applications submitted will remain active for up to one (1) year.


The Tutoring Center's mission is to foster student-driven success, promote independent learning, and provide academic support through an encouraging, engaging, and constructive environment.


Please note that there is no remote work available, all tutors work on site.

  • Provide tutoring to students in oneonone sessions (in person and/or online).
  • Provide workshops to students in group settings (in person and/or online).
  • Maintain and exhibit professionalism when conducting oneself as a tutor.
  • Create handouts, presentations, and other documents to help students improve understanding of course content particularly for workshop sessions.
  • Participate in ongoing training and information meetings to learn process and best practices.
  • Assist with the promotion of the Tutoring Services to students and faculty.
  • Maintain currency of all Center policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Complete and submit necessary paperwork in a timely manner including but not limited to time sheets, and data entry related to services provided.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all students who use Center.
  • Assist students/faculty as embedded tutors as assigned by the Academic Support Services Specialist.
  • Model ideal student behavior and practices during embedded tutoring class sessions.
  • Participate in Canvas discussions if assigned as an embedded tutor.
  • If assigned as an embedded tutor, meet with assigned faculty to discuss session plans, to obtain and provide feedback on difficult content topics, to obtain additional resources, to improve understanding of course content, and to build rapport.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements**:

  • Written and Oral communication skills
  • Technological Skills to conduct sessions in an online/remote environment.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have a grade of B or better in courses assigned to tutor.
  • Proficiency in multiple disciplines.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Classroom/Center, office environment. Working hours to take place on campus.
