Role Mission:
IDEA is currently undergoing a significant digital transformation initiative to modernize our data and analytics infrastructure.
As the new Data Architect, you will play a pivotal role in leading the architecture, design, and implementation of our next-generation data solutions.
In this hands-on role, you will architect and engineer data pipelines, platforms, integrations, and products on modern cloud platforms, such as Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, and/or GCP.
Collaborating closely with the data leadership team, you will shape the long-term vision, cloud adoption roadmaps, future-state analytical architecture, and data governance frameworks necessary for this transformation.
What You'll Do - AccountabilitiesEssential Duties:
- Design futurestate analytical architecture and cloud migration roadmap.
- Lead platform evaluation and handson buildout of data infrastructure on cloud technologies.
- Define and implement data integration, security, governance, and metadata retention strategies.
- Implement methodologies and reuse strategies to enhance quality while optimizing development.
- Define metadata strategy and lineage tracking capabilities.
- Drive initiatives to improve system reliability, availability, and performance.
- Lead cloud adoption while ensuring continuity of existing analytical initiatives.
- Continuously monitor postimplementation architecture health, performance, and scalability.
- Provide guidance to software engineering teams on design, scalability, and performance.
- Maintain continuity of existing analytics and data engineering initiatives during transformation.
- Improve architecture health, scalability, and efficiency as changes emerge.
- Design and document the Logical Data Model and develop a Physical Data Model.
- Create and execute Data Definition Language (DDL) statements for Snowflake and/or Delta Lake objects.
- Lead the team in designing 3NF logical and physical models in Erwin.
- Drive and build data model and architecture, implementing frameworks to ensure adherence to data architecture.
- Reverse engineer and understand the existing SQL/processes.
- Assist in developing data strategies for cloud data platform, master data management, metadata management, analytics, and data integration.
- Provide deep expertise in databases, data modeling, data architecture, and operating systems.
- Support endtoend data asset lifecycle management activities.
- Design robust, scalable, realtime data pipelines and data platform architecture.
- Lead the review and design of new data products, maintaining product documentation.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree from fouryear college or university in Information Technology/Computer Science
- 10+ years related work experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Any Cloud Certifications (Azure, GCP, AWS)
Knowledge and Skills:
Required
- 10+ years as a handson data engineering and 5+ technical data architect with 3+ years in cloud implementations.
- Proven track record of driving largescale cloud data platform modernization initiatives.
- Deep expertise with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and Data framework providers (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks).
- Proficiency in designing scalable, faulttolerant, and secure solutions.
- Ability to mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and lead design sessions.
- Champion data modeling standards and best practices.
- Knowledge of Data Warehousing, ETL, and BI architectures, concepts, and frameworks.
- Strategic leader with the ability to compellingly communicate technology vision to executives.
- Selfdriven technologist passionate about innovations in the data space.
- Ability to work independently and contribute effectively in a fastpaced environment.
- Knowledge of Canonical data models like HEDA (Higher education data architecture).
- 5 or more years' experience using Linux scripting (Python, Shell, etc.)
- 5 or more years' experience in SQL development and/or NoSQL databases
- 5 or more years' experience with cloudbased data offerings (Amazon AWS, Redshift, Snowflake, Google GCP, Microsoft Azure)
What We Offer:
Compensation & Benefits:
Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $81,800 and $95,800, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity.
- IDEA may offer a relocation stipend to defray the cost of moving for this role, if applicable.
