Typical duties include:


  • Implement adult learning methodologies to enhance instructional design.
  • Plan, write, evaluate, and update training programs and course content.
  • Design training objectives and assess participant progress towards meeting them.
  • Maintain accurate records of curriculum, materials, and training sessions.
  • Gather participant, instructor, and client feedback to continuously improve training quality.
  • Assess training needs and effectiveness.
  • Order instructional materials (e.g., eBooks and manuals) as needed.
  • Assist in preparing instructors or speakers for training sessions.
  • Actively engage in delivering course content to participants.
  • Organize and facilitate presentations, team-building activities, assessment debriefs, and custom workshops.
  • Collaborate with managers to discuss learning opportunities for employees.
  • Work closely with program coordinators to implement training programs.
  • Partner with internal teams to enrich courses with visual aids and interactive elements.
  • Measure and evaluate the outcomes and impact of training sessions.
  • Assist in planning of annual conference.

Minimum Hiring Standards:


  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant training experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including PowerPoint and Word.
  • Knowledge of instructional design methodologies, such as ADDIE.
  • Understanding of Bloom's taxonomy and the ability to create effective training objectives.
  • Familiarity with leadership concepts and development.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong active listening skills.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking abilities.
  • Attention to detail with solid research capabilities.
  • Leadership qualities and the confidence to provide direction.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Problemsolving abilities with a knack for finding innovative solutions.
  • Creativity in designing engaging training materials.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
  • Others duties as assigned.

Preferred Hiring Standards:

***- Bachelor's degree in Education, Business, Human Resources Management, Organizational Psychology, a related field, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Analytical evaluation skills for budgeting and planning.
  • Project management skills to coordinate complex training initiatives.
  • Certification and ability to debrief assessments such as: DISC, MBTI, EQ-I and 360s.
