Description

The Finance Director is responsible for leading the finance department and ensuring the strong financial health of VAI's operations, programs, and services.

Further, the Finance Director will review current operations and offer best practices to improve finance management.

This role requires high-level knowledge of nonprofit accounting, strategies for multi-year budget projections, a deep understanding of relationship dynamics, and proven leadership in a community-based setting.

The Finance Director will work closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and the organization's Leadership team.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Oversees management and direct reporting of six team members under working under billing, administrative, and maintenance;
  • Leads all financial planning and analysis (FP&A), including forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management in a nonprofit;
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and builds monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasts;
  • Advises on capital and fundraising strategies;
  • Oversees and reviews accounting tasks, including payroll, taxes, and compliance;
  • Presents financial reports and analysis to executives, board members, and other stakeholders;
  • Collaborates with senior staff and directors to create budgets and track key performance indicators;
  • Plan and control program costs, including resource planning, to ensure programs and services are within budget;
  • Provide program management coaching and mentoring to team members;
  • Strategize, implement, and maintain initiatives that adhere to organizational objectives;
  • Analyze, evaluate, and overcome program risks, and produce program reports for management and stakeholders;
  • Manage and maintain compliance for various contracts with the state agencies and private insurers;
  • Participate in programrelated site visits and helping to steward relationships with key stakeholders of Illinois Department of Aging and Managed Care Organizations;
  • Contribute strategically to regular department and allstaff meetings;
  • Lead on review and choosing vendors to assist with tech security, hardware maintenance, etc.;
  • Represent VAI at external events, as assigned;
  • Meets deadlines in a responsive work environment;
  • Additional responsibilities may be needed and will be discussed and assigned;

The Vietnamese Association of Illinois (VAI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that focuses on serving diverse communities, fostering unity, and promoting Vietnamese American identity.


Qualifications & Experience:


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance management in nonprofit or communitybased organizations;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills with strong problemsolving skills;
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills;
  • Excellent conflictresolution skills with ability to mediate and reach mutual understanding in a community setting;
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities;
  • Outstanding communication and people skills with diverse groups of people;
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality;
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office and Office 365 Suite and finance management software and finance system inventory;
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Work Requirements:


This is a full-time position based at VAI's office in the Uptown neighborhood, one of Chicago's most diverse neighborhoods along the lakefront on the northside.

VAI operates on a 4-day work week with an expected minimum of 32-hours of work a week. VAI staff must work at least two days in-office at our Chicago location. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Pay:
$85, $95,000.00 per year
