JOB BRIEF

  • Research Support_
  • Conducts research, analysis, and synthesis on numerous global and regional trends that impact U.S.
policy and practice in MENA including but not limited to:


  • Climate issues in Iraq.
  • Growth and activities of militias and other armed nonstate actors in the region.
  • China's role in MENA
  • Russia's role in MENA
  • The impact of the war in Gaza on US national security interests across the region
  • Conducts research to support USIP publications, web pieces, blogs, podcasts, and social media posts.
  • Database management of research data.
  • Monitors ongoing developments, initiatives, and innovations related to U.S. policy on MENA.
  • Provides notes on relevant external events and Congressional hearings
  • Project Reporting_
  • Provides copyediting and support for project reporting documents for fieldbased Libya and Tunisia teams. This includes copyediting of required quarterly reports for USIP Interagency Agreements with US government agencies and project proposals (or concept notes).
  • Compiles and edits inputs by fieldbased teams working on Libya and Tunisia for MENA weekly activities reports to be submitted to the Executive Office for weekly reporting to the USIP Board of Directors.
  • Events and Meetings Support_
  • Provides support for virtual and inperson events for the MENA Center's HQ engagements. Coordinating event logistics related to hospitality, room reservations, A/V, and briefing preparation for internal stakeholders.
  • Attends internal and external meetings, takes notes, and drafts meeting summaries and tracks follow up activities.
  • Administrative Support_
  • Copy editing for internal and external reports/documents.
  • This may include project summaries, project onepagers, activity summaries, concept notes.
  • Support with developing templates and/or guideline documents.
  • Updating USIP MENA Center website content related to project implementation, in coordination with field teams in Libya and Tunisia.
  • Performs other duties as assigned._

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree with one (1) or more years of experience international relations, peacebuilding, conflict resolution or related field required.
  • Research, analytical, writing, and critical thinking skills.
  • An understanding of U.S. foreign policy and conflict resolution.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Advanced computer/technology skills and demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel is required. Strong computer skills in database usage preferred.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships and strong interpersonal skills, including crosscultural communication.
  • Experience assisting in the organization of conferences, meetings, and events.
