In collaboration with our Operations Director and owner, Derrick Olson, you'll have the opportunity to shape the future success of 8one8 Brewing.

Together, you'll work closely to optimize brewing schedules, ensure efficient inventory management, and spearhead initiatives aimed at continuous improvement and innovation within our brewery.

Thank you for considering this exciting opportunity, The expectations of this position are to carry out the roles and responsibilities of a head brewer which include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Expectation of 40-60 hours of total work per week and some weekends depending on
the needs of the brew/fermentation schedule.

  • Management of brewery team day to day operations and work assignments to
achieve scheduled beer releases and production goals.

  • Brewing wort and completing cellar/ packaging work to company SOP's and quality
standards.

  • Driving the team to make award winning beers and setting goals with ownership to
achieve this.

  • Training new team members and giving input on progress of each team member
to management.

  • Holding team members accountable to company SOP standards and retraining
when necessary.

  • Working with Ops director/Owner to update and plan schedule
  • Inventory management of raw materials and packaging to ensure smooth operation of
the brewery.

  • Maintaining an efficient work flow for the team.
  • Completing and maintaining brew/fermenter logs for each session and communicating deviations from stated targets for criteria such as mash pH, mash temp, liquor: grist ratio, OG, fermenter volume/temp, CO2/DO levels.
  • Maintaining the teams adherence to safe practices and SOP's when handling
cleaning chemicals and adding correct amounts as needed for cleaning tasks.

  • Following SOP's for all miscellaneous cellar work/packaging and working
with Ops Mgr. to update them as needed for quality/process improvement.

  • Perform quality assurance checks on incoming raw materials and packaging supplies
  • Ensure lab equipment is well maintained
  • Thorough understanding of all brewhouse operations, vessels, and Software
maintain beer quality.

  • Creation of new recipe's to assist with company/ production capabilities and direction as
well as recommendations on improving existing recipes to bring brewery to the next level.

  • Collaboration with team to make SOP/ recipe/ work environment improvement
recommendations to ownership to increase quality, efficiency, and ease of production.

  • Willingness to represent the brewery at beer festivals, tap takeovers, and other
brewery events

  • Adhere to all applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations
  • Educate staff on beer/tasting and develop a culture of learning and advancement.
  • Other tasks may be assigned as needed
Physical requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to stoop, crawl, twist, turn, lift, kneel, climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry 44 lb boxes
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry 55 pound grain bags above waist level
  • Ability to lift/move up to 165 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance
  • Ability to safely handle and use chemicals related to brewery operations and to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to work in an environment where noise, temperature, and humidity levels may vary
  • Formal brewing education preferred (UC Davis, Siebel, ABG, etc)
  • Formal sensory training
  • Mechanical inclination
  • 10+ years professional brewing ex
