Risk Management & Insurance oversees universitywide risk and insurance matters, including assessing potential risks, procuring commercial insurance, and managing self-insurance programs. We provide expertise in areas such as student health insurance, injury and property damage reporting, automobile insurance, certificate requirements, waivers, contract review, student activities, and international travel.


Posting Summary

  • Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a responsible and experienced Department Administrator for the Department of Risk Management & Insurance. Reporting to the Manager
  • Contracts & Claims, this role encompasses a broad spectrum of administrative responsibilities.
  • Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides confidential, professional administrative and organizational support to management staff
  • Handles financial records, processing bills, invoices, and expense reports
  • Manages the transfer and recording of departmental funds and ensures expenditures align with allocations.
  • Undertakes general administrative tasks, including personnel support.
  • Manages schedules, events, and travel arrangements, as well as drafting correspondence and maintaining records.
  • Supports the Executive Director with various tasks and executing special projects.
  • Oversees office operations, including space management, equipment, and supplies, while facilitating maintenance and service requests.
  • Identifies and implements operational enhancements
  • Serves as the primary liaison with administrative units and vendors.
  • Screening visitors and calls, interprets policies and procedures.
  • Represents the department on committees or work groups.

    Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of office administration, organization, coordination, facilitation, bookkeeping, and/or report writing principles and practices.
  • A minimum of 2 years relevant experience in an administrative function.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills; written and oral communication skills; problem solving skills; and organizational skills.
  • Must possess the ability to attend to multiple concurrent tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Rutgers University policies, procedures, and organizational structure preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Rutgers procurement and HR/Payroll systems preferred.
