This position will provide reporting and financial services to internal agencies and external customers (schools, special districts, cities, towns, and state) so that they can conduct their operations, make informed decisions, manage resources, and report results to their agency.

The Maricopa County Treasurer is responsible for collecting all real and personal property taxes for the nation's 4th largest County with over 1,700 taxing districts that include state, County, incorporated cities and towns, schools, community colleges, and special districts.

Financial Services is responsible for ensuring all amounts collected are distributed to the proper taxing district.

We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting

  • Two or more years of professional accounting experience
Job Contributions

  • Performs a variety of accounting assignments including the annual setup and maintenance of accounting records, the classification of revenue and expenditure transactions, journalizing accounting transactions, and preparing closing period adjustments
  • Reviews and audits a variety of accounting and financial documents ensuring accuracy and makes correcting entries when necessary
  • Prepares trial balances, reconciliations, worksheets, and schedules
  • Compiles and prepares journal entries and periodic reconciliations of general ledger, journal, subsidiary accounts, and bank statements
  • Compiles and prepares financial reports and supporting schedules and documentation
  • May compile departmental operational and/or capital improvement information
  • Maintains financial records for various funding sources, including grants and capital expenses
  • Makes complex or difficult adjusting entries affecting several subsystems of a departmental accounting system
  • Reviews invoices and ensures proper documentation, balances against requisitions, purchase orders, and contracts
  • Maintains accurate records and files
  • May direct the work of others on a projector daytoday basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work in a typical, indoor office environment
  • Must have manual dexterity of hands and body to operate office equipment
  • Must manage frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, multiple and complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, teamoriented activities, prompt decisionmaking, and interaction with government officials and the public
  • Must constantly maintain concentration, accuracy, ethical behavior, and a professional demeanor
