Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a Media Assistant to support the work of the Communications Department within the Communications & Culture division of PPFA. This job reports to the Communications Director for the President of PPAF and PPFA. The department provides strategic communications guidance, support, and tactics to PPFA and Planned Parenthood affiliates.
Purpose:
The media assistant is responsible for administrative support for media team activities, monitoring and analyzing media coverage of relevant news and issues, and maintaining press lists.
This position supports the booking, health communications, and affiliate communications teams.Delivery
- Helps track, compile, and circulate media coverage to the appropriate staff in real time.
- Compiles news clips into comprehensive daily summaries.
- Helps develop and maintain media lists; and manually distributes press releases and additional press
- Posts media material to Planned Parenthood website(s).
- Tracks and produces reports on the media team's activities
- Draft media and press materials as needed.
- Schedules and coordinates conference call logistics and agendas for internal and external calls with members of the media.
- Processes expense reports, reconciles department invoices, pay orders, and purchases.
- Organizes electronic files.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
Engagement:
- Performs background research on proactive and reactive media requests, and provides
- Assists on media engagements with PPFA spokespeople as needed.
- Collaborates with media teams on providing analyses on media activities and tracking
- Finds and recommends tools to increase readership, media, and metrics management,
- Helps identify external vendors working on innovative communications products,
- Provides analysis of trends based on press coverage.
- Provides research and analysis of media trends and measurement tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Bachelor's degree or at least two years of work experience.
- Excellent writing and organizational skills.
- High proficiency in Google products, marketing tools, and media management systems.
- At least 12 years of media relations, customer service, or work experience preferred.
- Familiarity with the news media landscape is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights issues preferred.
- Detailoriented in a fastpaced, dynamic environment.
- Quick to learn new systems and processes.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and finding innovative ways to solve
- Both a selfstarter and receptive to quick direction.
- Some Spanish proficiency is preferred, but not required.
- Experience with copyediting is preferred but not required.
- Flexibility to work occasional night and/or weekend hours in emergency, rapid response
- Knowledge of diverse groups, working with a diverse workforce, and sensitivity to and
