Join our team as an Engineer III- Utilities (Planning)

The role of Engineer III- Utilities (Planning) involves acting in a supervisory capacity, plans, develops, coordinates, and directs a number of large and important projects involving utility system expansion.

May perform direct highly complex and specialized utility system engineering evaluations and studies necessary to support utility system planning, operation, maintenance or regulatory requirements.

Duties will include planning, coordinating, managing, and reviewing the work of subordinate technical employees and consulting engineers engaged by the department to perform utility system evaluations, program planning, facility design, and construction management.

Under broad guidance from Utilities management the Engineer III is responsible for leading the master planning of the Utilities' Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) program.

This involves using available asset management data, hydraulic modeling tools, and coordination with other departments to identify needed projects.

The ability to analyze, provide a conceptual design for CIP scope development and conceptual cost estimates.

Must be able to utilize hydraulic modeling software and other tools to be responsive to evaluations of needs for proposed new development.

Must be able to lead a team of planning engineers.

Interacts and coordinates with state regulatory agencies and County departments as required for Utilities projects.

Evaluates new equipment, materials, and repair procedures for use by other Utilities Departments.

Provides assistance to the general public and citizen groups as requested.

Coordinates and conducts project public hearings as required.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil/environmental engineering.

Knowledge of modern developments, accepted practices, current literature, and sources of information in the area of public utilities engineering and applicable laws, regulatory rules and regulations.

Ability to plan and direct the work of consultants, engineers, contractors, technicians, and administrative personnel.

Ability to give technical and professional review to a wide variety and large volume of utility engineering projects and related plans, specifications, contract documents, and regulatory permits.

Ability to present clear and concise reports, orally and in writing.
Ability to read and interpret complex engineering reports, regulatory permits, construction plans, specifications and contracts.
Ability to meet and work with the public and regulatory authorities, make presentations, and reply to complaints.

PHYSICAL SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
EDUCATION,

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering.

Five (5) years of experience in the field of planning or hydraulic analysis, plant engineering or in an operating plant environment supporting production, operations and maintenance activities, including two (2) years' as a project manager, engineer, supervisor or related duties.

Must be proficient with hydraulic modeling software and be able to apply it routinely.
LICENSES,

CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.
*Applicants that are not registered as a Professional Engineer may apply, but would be considered for a Technical Specialist III position at $68, $102,159.00 Annually (D.O.Q.). If hired, must have the ability to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida within one (1) year from the date of hire.
