This is a hybrid position, and the candidate must be able to commute to the JVS office in Boston.
Position Summary:
The Grants Manager is responsible for the creation of grant proposals and related materials that support the JVS Development team's strategic fundraising goals.
The Grants Manager works closely with the Development team, finance department, and programmatic staff throughout the agency to develop compelling proposals in response to solicitations from government and private grant- making organizations.
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Grants Manager will work as part of a team within the Development Department who are responsible for increasing, diversifying, and sustaining philanthropic support from foundations, corporations, and government sources.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer, strong communicator, accomplished project manager, and possess meticulous attention to detail.Key Responsibilities:
The JVS grants program produces over 100 proposals, reports, letters of intent, and concept notes each year.
The Grants Manager coordinates the production of all projects, serves as lead writer for many of the projects, and ensures timely submission to funders.
Maintain overall grants project calendar, ensuring all deadlines are met. Assign team member as lead writer to each project. The Grants Manager will prepare of portion of proposals and reports and will coordinate production for others.Using JVS standard operating procedures (SOPs) and tracker, plan each project (letter of intent, concept note, proposal or report. Initiate and coordinate internal requests for data, budgets and expenditure reports, and program narratives. Review material for accuracy, relevance, and completeness. Shape and rewrite narrative material to meet proposal requirements and strategy.
For assigned projects, research, write, and submit compelling grant concept notes, letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports. Following JVS SOPs, prepare drafts of assigned reports and proposals and share with Associate Director/VP/other for final review.
Engage and oversee freelance grant writers to assist with funder proposals and reports as needed.
This includes providing internal information and guidance to grant writers, reviewing drafts and making edits/revisions as needed, as well as setting deadlines and expectations for their work.
Review all projects for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with JVS style. Ensure on-time submission of all proposals and reports.As grants are awarded, assure completion of award documents. Share notification with finance and program staff. Add deliverables to calendar and update records in Salesforce. Write grant award acknowledgment letters and track payments with the JVS finance team.
Update agency profiles on sites including Charity Navigator, GuideStar, and Great Nonprofits. Request and collect information needed to update annually.
Oversee grant program processes and procedures. Manage institutional giving metrics. Take initiative to streamline processes and look for ways to make our work more efficient.
Research relevant studies, reports, and statistical data to strengthen agency proposals and funder materials. Update boilerplates for agency and programs. Maintain library of common attachments requested with reports and proposals.
Research foundation, corporate, and government initiatives to identify a pipeline of prospective funding sources aligned with JVS's work. Collaborate with the Associate Director to develop grant strategies and priorities for the agency.
Support the Associate Director on funding-related projects and stewardship activities as needed. Contribute to special events and projects as part of the Development team. Participate in Development team staff meetings. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant professional experience
Experience with professional grant writing or grant management experience, or related work in a non-profit
Demonstrated aptitude for writing and communicating
Strong editing and proofreading skills
Knowledge of standard written English, including correct grammar and spelling
High level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
Excellent analytical skills
Solid understanding of budgets as they relate to grants
Ability to work professionally under pressure and meet tight and/or competing deadlines
Strong organization, project, and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects
Self-starter, ability to work independently
Ability to work collaboratively across departments
Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information
Proficiency with relevant technology (MS Office Suite, Salesforce or similar database, etc.)
Knowledge of the local, regional, and national philanthropic communities a plus
