General Description:


  • Under the general supervision of the Systems Infrastructure Coordinator, the Asset Management Technician performs specialized technical work in maintaining and developing asset data throughout the organization's Asset Management Information Systems, including Geographical Information System (GIS), Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS), and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) in support of asset management objectives. The technician is responsible for ensuring the integrity and accessibility of asset and geographic data, creating documentation, analyzing information system needs, and providing technical assistance to GIS, EAMS and CMMS (information system) users in alignment with ISO 55001 standards.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Create, maintain, and update asset attributes, information, and geographic data in GIS and EAMS to ensure completeness and accuracy. This includes the creation, modification, and deactivation of utility asset and location records and data.
  • Analyze available data sources to ensure accuracy in data management and to ensure data meets business needs, industry regulations, and applicable ISO 55001 standards.
  • Participate in the collection of raw data for input into EAMS and GIS from primary sources, including technical document review and field verification/collection of data.
  • Conduct ongoing data quality assurance and validation to maintain the accuracy and integrity of GIS and EAMS.
  • Develop and maintain technical, process, and resource documentation to support business needs.
  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders on assetrelated projects and capital improvement plans to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Integrate asset data across systems to improve organizational processes and data integrity.
  • Perform data analysis tasks using spatial and tabular data to generate actionable insights for effective asset management and decisionmaking.
  • Fulfill data requests, including asbuilts, plat research, and GIS data exports to support various stakeholder needs.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to system processes and actively participate in their implementation to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and collaborate in problem resolution to ensure information system reliability and user satisfaction.
  • Partner with IT and relevant stakeholders to conduct testing for system upgrades and enhancements, documenting results, and ensuring system integrity, stability, and functionality.
  • Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning for information systems to ensure the protection and quick restoration of critical asset data.

Position requires the operation of a City vehicle.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • Proficient in use of GIS, CMMS, and EAM systems, including Central Square EAM, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online.
  • Knowledge of hardware, software and systems used in geographical data management and in standard office settings, including copy machines, plotters, large format scanners, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Familiarity with architectural, engineering, construction, record, plat, and CAD drawings.
  • Skilled in data entry, analysis, interpretation, and visualization to support asset management objectives.
  • Ability to help develop and adhere to relevant standard operating procedures and process documentation.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions.
