SUMMARY OF POSITION:


Supervises container yard planning and gate operations, daily work schedules and directs associates to assure accurate, efficient, and timely delivery, proper inventory control, and prompt and effective response to customer requests.

Provides guidance and direction to Union Labor Workforce (ILA) associated with container yard and gate operations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors gate processes to ensure overtheroad truck velocity KPI's are met
  • Monitors gate operating system (GOS) to ensure software and hardware are functioning properly
  • Using terminal operating system (TOS) software, monitors the status of truck transactions (road queue) to ensure timely service
  • Creates and modifies container decking strategies, creating ranges and allocations
  • Provides vessel operations with grounding locations for vessel import containers
  • When necessary, prepares import consolidation strategies
  • Monitors the status of grounded export (full & empty) containers to ensure the container stacks are in good order before vessel operations commence
  • Ensures container yard checkers are updating container stacks
  • Prepares and monitors yard work queues
  • Coordinates with Customs and Border Patrol on exam schedules and gate operating hours
  • Prepares endofday report
  • Works closely with container yard supervisors, container handling equipment management team, and labor coordinator to determine amount of labor and equipment required
  • Reviews container dwell day status reports
  • Works closely with vessel planners and vessel supervisors to ensure vessel productivity KPI's are realized
  • Monitors container yard grounded, wheeled, and reefer plug capacity
  • Additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experiences with yard and vessel planning terminal operating system software
  • Experience with container yard and container vessel operations
  • General knowledge of industry equipment and technology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent safety record
  • Able to train new employees
  • Able to motivate and build morale within the group
  • Ability to supervise, train and hold associates accountable for performance and results
  • Obtain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a 3year driving history that is acceptable to our auto insurance carrier.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, handle objects, reach with hands and arms, and write, talk, type, and hear.

The associate is occasionally required to sit, stoop, bend, or kneel and lift and, or move up to 35 lbs.

The associate is typically in a warehouse or an outdoor environment but will find him/herself in an office environment from time to time.
